Show Description

Convergent Voices is an invitational faculty show for the DigiPen Institute of Technology. It is being held at the Figure Ground Art Gallery in Pioneer Square, Seattle, opening on First Thursday Art Walk on March 2nd from 5-9 PM and hanging through the month of March.

Foundational skills such as drawing, painting, and sculpting from life are vital to success as a digital artist, and many DigiPen instructors are practicing representational painters and sculptors with unique voices. This show highlights 39 works in traditional media by 24 artists, recognizing the amazing pool of talent in the DigiPen community and their role in shaping a new generation of artists.

The Figure Ground Art Gallery, which opened in July of 2021, is dedicated to fostering a flourishing art culture by curating realism that is fresh and exciting for a modern audience and grounded in technical brilliance that comes from mastery of core skills. It has built an international reputation for curation in a short time, and has become a favorite of the DigiPen community.

Although marginalized by the art world in the 20th century, representational art is experiencing a global, grassroots resurgence. Many artists who wish to work in traditional media have leveraged high-value digital art skills to arrive at a sustaining balance in their careers, while using digital art to expand the realm of possibilities of traditional media.

The invitational show will be a diverse mix of paintings, drawings, digital art, hand wrought and 3D printed sculpture. It is all a spontaneous and creative product of the artist, as no restrictions or themes have been placed on this body of work.
