Dean Fisher’s eclectic range of small figurative oil sketches, incredible still lifes, garden paintings, and large figurative nudes, shimmered from the walls. Still Lifes

Above: Still lifes are about visual excitement, and this freaking amazing one by Fisher has so many triangles popping out, ellipses falling over each other, and contrasting dance partners of warm and cool colors that your eye will never be tired. It is also big enough to lift a whole room with its energy.

So many still lifes start with a horizontal line across the canvas showing the table edge; looking down on the composition is a fun way to reinvent the form. I love looking deep into the coffee cup, and the sharp reflections from the pitcher that makes it pop forward.

Above: This is Dean on a cool-headed, analytical day - lovingly rendered forms, a peaceful well ordered composition, an tactile earthiness to the pottery. Putting together a show feels like making a mix tape of songs. This one feels like it has bit of soul piano in it; maybe Nina Simone.

Above: I love this little gem; with a figure in a landscape. This figure feels of their own world, untouched by the viewer, as they wash their feet in a little stream. I also love what is happening with the diagonals.
