Contemporary fine art realism of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Lovers by Michael Newberry

For 3-years, the Figure Ground advocated for representational realism through monthly shows that featured artists from the Pacific Northwest and around the world. The project was received enthusiastically by artists and had the support of volunteers, collectors, and guest curators, who enabled it to be an oasis for the thriving community of realists in Seattle.

Now, we are looking to the future. Gallery co-curator Jen Dale has taken the reigns of the Oregon Society of Artists as the Executive Director, helping to brighten the future of representational art education. Gallery owner Brett Holverstott has, as an architect, began supporting numerous projects to provide spaces for art; and as a writer, is embarking on a new nonfiction project: Everything is Beautiful: The Return of Observation, Realism, and Beauty in Fine Art to chronicle the global resurgence in figurative realism in the last 30 years.

Although we have removed our online catalogue while re-envisioning the website, we remain available for art advising services, art nonprofit visioning & administration, and advocacy for realism in the arts.

I am inspired by what you’re doing and I think it’s more than just a gallery. I have a fierce belief that your mission is paradigm shifting, necessary, and incredibly hopeful.

the gallery promotes gifted artists who present an honest assessment of ourselves as human beings, and artwork that is an exciting breath of fresh air... that transcends the here-and-now of our politics and makes a mark in art history
