Prometheus- Stealing the fire from the Gods and delivering it to mankind was a crime punishable by worse than death. Prometheus would be chained to a rock high up on a mountain top and everyday a great big eagle would swoop down and devour his liver as he lay naked and helpless. Every night the liver grew back and come morning the demon bird would return again. Here Prometheus is depicted writhing with his eternal burden hovering over him. Some stories find Heracles on his journeys coming up to the mountain top and breaking Prometheus free from his punishment.
